Philosophy:
Teaching or tutoring should be tailored to each child's learning style and specific needs by assessing through expert performative and summative experiences. This will guide the process toward a solid foundation in both an in depth conceptual understanding, mastery of core math facts, and a toolbox of strategies to bring to problem solving.
Step by step, confidence is built by proficiency and embracing the fact that making mistakes creates the path to new learning. One of the main differences between advanced and struggling math students is that the advanced students are not afraid of making mistakes. They attack problems again by looking to new strategies, often by consulting peers and teachers. This builds math concepts far beyond their textbooks, and develops a love of learning that, once established, will last a lifetime.
